The Thorne & Hatfield Moors Conservation Forum publishes material in a number of different formats.
Papers
The first volume of papers was originally published in 1987 by Doncaster Naturalists’ Society, (before the Forum was established in 1989,) and called Thorne Moors
Papers. The title was subsequently changed to Thorne and Hatfield Moors Papers
and was taken up as the Forum’s official journal. Volume 2, 1991 and Volume 3
1992 encompassed ecology, palaeoecology, conservation and history. There was a
gap of 5 years before Volume 4 in 1997, then Volume 5 in 1998, Volume 6 in
2003 and another 5 years before Volume 7 in 2008. Volume 8 focused on Hatfield moors, was published in 2011.
The primary aims of the papers are to aid and facilitate the conservation of Thorne and Hatfield Moors and to assist in the understanding and documentation of the geology, palaeoecology, ecology, flora, fauna, archaeology and history of Thorne and Hatfield Moors.
The Papers are professionally produced as perfect bound A5 paperbacks on high-quality paper.
Technical reports
There is sometimes a case for preserving documentation relating
to Thorne and Hatfield Moors, but which, for a variety of reasons, will not appear in
Thorne & Hatfield Moors Papers. THMCF Technical Reports were designed to do this in a permanent, consistent and
retrievable way, in a relatively simple and inexpensive format.
Since 1999, 19 Technical Reports have been published. They are A4 sized, and comb-bound with card covers.
Monographs
These are in general substantial works on a single topic or group of related topics.
The first monograph was published in 2002 ‘A palaeoecological study of raised
mires in the Humberhead Levels’. The second monograph, 'An Inventory of the Invertebrates of Thorne & Hatfield Moors' by Peter Skidmore was published in 2007 to considerable acclaim.
Maps
A3 printed copies of a map of Hatfield Moors detailing up to date (2011) details of recording areas are available to purchase.
Lectures
The Forum sponsors an annual Stephen Warburton Memorial Lecture, in memory of our dear friend and colleague who sadly died in January 2004.
